Barcelona prioritise Man Utd transfer target despite Jurgen Klopp joining Liverpool

BARCELONA will sign Marco Reus this summer despite interest from both Manchester United and Liverpool, claim reports in Spain.

The Liga champions have reportedly drawn up two shopping lists in an effort to plunder the winter and summer transferMARKETS.

And Spanish sports paper Mundo Deportivo claim Borussia Dortmund's Reus is on their long-term list, with Celta Vigo midfielder Nolito lined up for a January move.

Barca have been unable to sign any new players in 2015 after FIFA banned them from transfer activity.

Arda Turan joined the club from Atletico Madrid in the summer but has been unable to play due to the embargo.

It was thought United were ready to bid for Reus after offloading Belgian youngster Adnan Januzaj onto Dortmund.

But no offer came in this summer and reports of a winter move have died down.

Liverpool are also thought to be considering a move for the Germany international following the appointment of his former boss, Jurgen Klopp, at Anfield this week.

Klopp has already said he wants to stamp his style on the Liverpool team, with Reus an integral part of the success he enjoyed while at Dortmund.

Reus, 26, joined the Bundesliga club in 2012 after a stint at Borussia Monchengladbach.

He missed the 2014 World Cup through injury and was thought to have agreed a five-year deal to join Real Madrid last January.

That move fell through, handing United hope they could land the midfielder last summer.

But Dortmund held on to their star man, with Barca soon free to plunge into the transferMARKET.

Chile got their 2018 World Cup campaign off to the perfect start on Thursday when two late goals gave them a 2-0 win over five-time champions Brazil.

Eduardo Vargas deftly volleyed home a cross from the right after 72 minutes that goalkeeper Jefferson got a hand to but could not stop. Alexis Sánchez then doubled their lead in the 89th minute when he finished off a nice 1-2 with Arturo Vidal.

The goals were reward for a high-intensity performance from the Chileans, who created more chances than their visitors. “We did what we had to do,” Chilean goalkeeper Claudio Bravo said in a televised interview. “We knew that Brazil are a good team and can hit on the counter attack, and we knew how we had to play. We got three points and that’s fantastic.“

Neither side was able to dominate the early moments of the match, which came at the same venue where the home side won the Copa América in July. But Chile took over as the match went on to record their first win over Brazil in the South American World Cup qualifiers since 2000.

Brazil, who were without suspended Barcelona striker Neymar and lacked direction, will aim to get back on the winning track at home to Venezuela on Tuesday, while Chile will travel to Lima to face Peru.

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has warned Nigerians living in the North East and other parts of the country to be on the lookout for Cluster Bombs (pictured above) sometimes called scatter bombs as the Nigerian Army Engineers serving in Adamawa State recently recovered some catches of these bombs in some areas in the state.

In a statement released yesterday night, the Defence headquarters said it has discovered that the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) in the troubled zones have used such lethal instruments during their attacks in recent times. According to the defence Headquarters, cluster bombs are bombs that house submunitions, that is, smaller explosives contained in individual cases.

These bombs are used against large areas containing many targets, such as columns of vehicles, marketplaces, places of worship or large troop concentration as the case may be. Some cluster bombs carry several hundred of very small explosives wrapped in a metal container like a pot while others carry larger submunitions that can find specific targets such as tanks. Some of these submunitions do not blow up immediately, but remain behind and act as landmines.

The military says the general publics should be wary of such concealed dangerous equipment now being used by the terrorist elements to cause havoc to both innocent lives and property. They advised that people should report any of such objects/materials if seen to security agencies for prompt action. They urged Nigerians to continue to cooperate with the security agencies by giving timely information to secure the country.

The world's fastest man Usain Bolt is a stringent Manchester United supporter.

But like many other fans of the Old Trafford club, he got a bit over-confident ahead of the Arsenal clash at the Emirates on Sunday.

Louis van Gaal's team, of course, conceded three goals in just 20 minutes in an awful display.

Bolt had made a bet with Mexican Arsenal-supporting TV presenter Patty Lopez de la Cerda that the loser would have to wear the shirt of the other.

The Jamaican sprinter, who has said that Rio 2016 will be his last Olympics, posted the results on Instagram. He said: "So I lost a bet with @pattylopezdelac that man untied [sic] would win but they didn't so I have to pay up on my bet so sorry guys. #nothappy #seriousface"

"I start training for the Olympics next Monday [October 12]. It will be my last Olympics," he said on the Ellen DeGeneres show.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has ordered a fence to be built around the Carrington training pitch to keep spies away from sessions at Carrington, according to reports.

Work on a green canvas permiter fence is set to start this week with most of his first-team squad away on international duty.

The Dutchman has already implemented numerous changes at the £60million Aon Training Complex, the perimter the latest addition, according to the Daily Mail.

He had floodlights installed so players can prepare for evening games, trees were planted to deflect wind and a pitch with identical dimensions to Old Trafford was laid - groundsmen are even told to cut the grass to the same length.

Security-conscious Van Gaal has also turned away workmen if they arrived at a time when his squad was training, while a road sometimes used as an overspill car park is off-limits during sessions, as people parking there can see the players in action.

Van Gaal has been criticised this week for his tactics during the defeat against Arsenal, with United players reported to be 'unhappy' that they didn't play on the counter at the Emirates, while Dutch legend Johan Cruyff also said that Van Gaal doesn't play 'dominating football'.

"He doesn't dominate. I like dominating football. Manchester doesn't play like that," Cruyff said.

"I don't think so," said Cruyff when asked if Van Gaal plays too cautiously, "but it's strange that against strong teams they've got good results and with weak teams they've had difficulties. That's a strange situation.

"But the results I think are second. The game is first. Money is very important but always second. In England they play different, everybody has their own style. A mix of styles is always good. 

"The most important part are the fans, that people going home are happy. It's their time off and you should give them something to enjoy."

Sam Allardyce: Sunderland open talks over manager's role

Sunderland have opened talks with Sam Allardyce over the vacant manager's position at the Stadium of Light.

Dick Advocaat left Sunderland last Sunday with the Black Cats second-bottom of the Premier League and winless in their opening eight games.

Allardyce, 60, has been out of work since leaving West Ham at the end of last season.

The former Bolton and Blackburn manager had a spell as player with Sunderland between 1980 and 1981.

Allardyce also had a spell in charge of Sunderland's north-east rivals Newcastle in 2007 and 2008.

The Wearsiders, who are five points adrift of safety in the Premier League, are looking for their eighth manager in seven years following the departure of Advocaat.

The Dutchman's predecessor Gus Poyet has already backed Allardyce to become Sunderland's next manager.

"He had an experience before in the North East," said Poyet. "He knows the Premier League inside out and he knows exactly what a team needs to do to stay in the Premier League."

Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool job is the biggest challenge in football

New Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has described the Anfield job as "the biggest challenge" in world football.

The 48-year-old German was appointed as Brendan Rodgers' successor on Thursday, signing a three-year deal worth £15m.

He takes over a side who are 10th in the Premier League with 12 points from eight games.

"I was never a guy for an easy way," Klopp told LFCTV. "This is the biggest challenge in football. It is the most interesting job in world football."

Rodgers led Liverpool, who won the most recent of their 18 league titles in 1990, to a second-place finish in 2014, but they managed only sixth last season.

Klopp, who won the Bundesliga twice and reached the 2013 Champions League final during his seven years at Dortmund, said: "I am here because I believe in the potential of the team.

"In this moment we are not the best team in the world, but who cares? We want to be the best team in the world in the future.

"There are problems, you need to solve them. We have good defenders, strikers and midfielders. The first game is at Tottenham [in the Premier League on 17 October]. We need to make a team for this game."

Photos: Corpse found at CMS Boat Station

According to our source, a dead man was found at the early hours of this morning floating on the sea. It was first discovered when one of the boat riders at the CMS boat station wanted to untie his boat to convey passengers to Tarkwa-bay.

The corpse which was identified as a man had is both hands tied together and his head chopped off.

We are pleading to security agents to please take necessary measures to curb such future occurrence.
 One of the boat rider confirmed to our source that this isn't the first time a situation like this is happening.

The Government should kindly take necessary steps in getting rid of the corpse from the sea.
