Former Niger Delta militants under the groups called
the Niger Delta Coalition and Delta Coalition for Change yesterday said
that the region will not head into violence if President Goodluck
Jonathan loses the March 28 election.
The ex-militants revealed that no matter who wins the polls, they would give their full support to the winner.
The ex-fighters had in January sworn to violence if Jonathan, who hails from the region, fails to win his re-election bid.
Some
of the Niger Delta militants had threatened war after a meeting with
the special assistant to the president on Niger Delta affairs, Kingsley
Kuku, including Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, Government Ekpemupolo (aka
Tompolo), Victor Ben Ebikabowei (aka Boy Loaf), Eris Paul (aka General
Ogunboss) and Pastor Reuben.
“This action is calling the Niger Delta youth to war,” Dokubo-Asari had said at a press conference after the meeting.
