Barcelona have immortalised their former coach, Tito Vilanova
by naming the principal pitch at the club’s training ground after him.
Vilanova passed on in April 2013 aged 45 after a long battle with
throat cancer. He led Barcelona to a record 100 point tally during his
only season as manager in 2012/13 after succeeding Pep Guardiola, under
whom he enjoyed a trophy-laden four-year as assistant.
“He would have loved to have been here,” said Vilanova’s wife Montse
Chaure. “He said it was a privilege to coach the best team in the world
and that he loved the players.”
