Buhari’s victory like MKO’s –Abiola’s daughter

Hafsat Abiola-Costello
Mrs. Hafsat Abiola-Costello, one of the daughters of the late MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, has described the victory of the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, as similar to that of her late father.
Abiola-Costello, who is the founder of the Kudirat Initiative for Democracy, said Buhari’s campaign of change had renewed the hope of Nigerians. She, therefore, urged the President-elect not to disappoint Nigerians.
Abiola-Costello said this when the senator-elect, Kaduna-Central senatorial district Alhaji Shehu Sani, paid a visit to the Abiola family in Lagos, on Thursday.
She said, “I wrote a letter before the elections expressing my support for Gen. Buhari and for us in this house, we are happy to see that he emerged victorious in spite of the many efforts to deny him of victory but we must be aware that one man cannot change Nigeria. Such a person needs a strong team.
“We need people who are ready to sacrifice for Nigeria. That was the first time I ever endorsed a candidate and it was because the way Nigeria was going, I felt this was our last chance to get things right. I didn’t see a better way to save Nigeria. Before we start celebrating, we need to know those who will constitute his team
“This is similar to what we saw in 1993 when people looked beyond ethnicity and religion and chose MKO Abiola. You can see that Nigerians are trying to tell the world that they deserve better.”
Abiola-Costello commended Sani for visiting the family. She said it was good that Sani, who is also a human rights activist, had been given the opportunity to make change.
She said, “You stayed close to my father and listened. You have always been true to the struggle, defending the oppressed and our right to democracy. I hope when you go to the Senate and speak, your colleagues will hear. I want you to know that this family will always support you.”
In his remarks, Sani said it was important for the incoming administration to give MKO the deserved recognition and should erect a monument in his honour.
He said the political consciousness of Nigerians was evoked by the events of June 12.

APC leaders fail to agree on zoning

National Chairman, All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress on Thursday failed   to reach a decision on the   zoning of   political offices.
They   met at the Rivers State Governors’ Lodge at Asokoro, Abuja all through Wednesday night and the early hours of Thursday.
The leaders however adjourned the meeting after considering the party’s performance in the last general elections as well as the way forward for this week’s re-run elections in Abia, Imo and Taraba states.
It was learnt that they felt more consultations were needed before a final decision could be taken on position sharing.
A highly placed member of the party, who spoke to The PUNCH about the meeting, explained that the APC leadership was only   being meticulous.
The member, who asked not to be named   because he was not authorised to speak on the issues discussed at the meeting , said, “We have to be careful in dealing with such sensitive issues because we must carry everybody along to eliminate the possibility of having aggrieved members who could be used by our opponents.

“If you remember, the President-elect, (Muhammadu Buhari) has promised to be the President of those who voted for and against him and even those who did not vote. And   in keeping with this promise, we want to come up with what is fair to all like we have done so far. We may meet again today(Thursday) or tomorrow(today).”
The PUNCH   however gathered that   the APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, was mandated to meet with the serving and elected lawmakers of the party to feel their pulse on the zoning of the principal offices in the National Assembly.
The meeting which was scheduled for Thursday was postponed for an undisclosed reason.
When contacted by one of our correspondents, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC,   Lai Mohammed, said, “Like I told you yesterday (Wednesday), our leaders only met to discuss party issues, there was no National Working Committee or National Executive Council meeting. “When we hold such a meeting, we will let you know.”
The APC leaders at the meeting were   the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari; the Vice-President-elect,   Yomi Osinbajo;   former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a former Lagos State Governor,   Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu.
Others   were a former National Chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party,   Ogbonnaya Onu, publisher of Leadership Newspaper,   Sam Nda- Isaiah; the Chairman of the   Progressives Governors’ Forum,   Rochas Okorocha, Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi;   Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, and Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
The Chairman Senate Committee on Millennium Development Goals, Ali Ndume, and the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance for the April 25 re-run election in Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, made surprise appearances at the national secretariat venue of the meeting.
Ndume, who is among those being tipped for a leadership position in the incoming 8th Senate,   held a closed-door meeting with some leaders of the party.
He later   told journalists that   the North-East where he comes from was seeking for the highest available office. The lawmaker added that as genuine party members, they were prepared to abide by whatever decision the party arrived at on the matter.
He said, “Anything that is given to us will be okay. We have contributed so much as a zone. We even prefer to be given the best but we know that the best cannot be given to all.
“For instance, we prefer to be given even the presidency but that has been given to another zone and the vice- president also to another zone.
“The party is considering all these and we are pushing our case. It is left for the party to decide what is in the best interest of the country which is what the party stands for.”
It was not clear why Otti was at the venue of the meeting with the leaders of the APC but insiders believe his visit was to consolidate on a working relationship he has developed with the APC.
Meanwhile, a member of National Executive Council of the APC told one of our correspondents that the South-East would not produce any principal officers in the Buhari administration.
The NEC member said the inability of the region to produce a senator or a member of the House of Representatives in the April 11 elections   shut out the zone from producing any principal officer.
The NEC member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, explained that the idea of picking a Peoples Democratic Party senator-elect or House of Representatives-elect as a principal officer was impossible.
He said, “The national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Tinubu, has gone to the US. He will also be in London. If Senator Chris Ngige had won his election into the Senate, he would have been an automatic candidate for the senate presidency.
“There’s no way a PDP senator or federal lawmaker would be selected for any of the principal posts which include the senate presidency, deputy senate presidency, speaker and deputy speaker. You cannot be a senate president or speaker if you are not a ranking member of the leading party in the House.”

The real reason Big Sean and Ariana Grande broke up?

Ariana Grande and Big Sean announced a few days ago that they were breaking up after dating for 8 months. Now, insiders are dishing on went wrong.

From TMZ...

Sources tell TMZ ... Sean claims it was him who broke off the relationship because she was "immature". Sources say the downfall of their relationship started in February, when he made the most important appearance of his career at the House of Blues in West Hollywood. Everyone showed -- Kanye, Bieber, JLo, Chris Brown, Jay Z, A$AP Rocky, Tyga, Kylie and Kendall -- everyone except Ariana. We're told she needed to get ready for the Grammy's the next day, which he found extremely selfish.
Sean also traveled to see her "10 times more" than she went to see him. He claimed once she demanded that he blow tens of thousands of dollars to take a private jet to see her. Sean, who grew up poor, felt she was a spendthrift ... a sign of immaturity.
But the crowning blow was just after the breakup. They were still talking and the door was slightly open for a reconciliation, when Bieber jumped onstage in L.A. and grabbed Ariana from behind. Even though Ariana pushed Biebs away, Sean believes it was all calculated -- NOT by Bieber but Ariana -- to hurt him.

Medicine after death...GEJ is a good man! Sues Senate, House of Reps over Constitution Amendments

President Jonathan is a good man. He's just a month away from leaving as president of Nigeria and he could have signed this constitutional amendment bill that doesn't particularly concern him anymore but he refused to. For those who don't know what's going on, let me break it down to the best of my ability. Lol. So, the Nigerian Senate is trying to amend the 1999 constitution to the effect that it will whittle down some executive powers of the President and give more power to the legislature and judiciary.

If amended, it means there are some decisions and actions the president can't take without the consent of the National Assemly and there will be decisions the National Assembly can take without the consent of the president. Like I said, GEJ could sign this and walk away but instead he refused to sign it. He wrote a 7-page letter to the Senate explaining why he declined to sign the document into law.

"In view of the foregoing and absence of credible evidence that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Fourth Alteration) Act 2015 satisfied the strict requirements of Section 9(3) of the 1999 Constitution, it will be unconstitutional for me to assent to it. I therefore withhold my assent and accordingly remit Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Fourth Alteration) Act 2015 to the Senate /House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
But now, the National Assembly is saying that after 30 days, if the president doesn't sign the doc, they will override his veto. Meaning that they will give themselves the power to amend the constitution without the president's signature. Now the federal government has instituted a suit at the Supreme Court to nullify the proposed amendments to the 1999 Constitution.

Photo: Footballer kicked off team for having sex with fan during match

Lol. Oloshi man. He couldn't wait till after the match and take her to a hotel or something. British footballer Jay Hart, 24, was kicked out of his team, Clitheroe FC, after he was filmed having sex with a willing female fan he met during a football match.

Jay, who wasn't playing, was approached by the female fan. And after chatting for a few minutes, Jay, who has a girlfriend, took the lady to the manager dugout, pulled down his pants and started having sex with her. Another fan caught the action on a cell phone.

When the video went viral on social media, He was fired by his club. Club chairwoman Anne Barker told the media; “Jay Hart has been dismissed from the club. I can't have somebody wearing the Clitheroe FC tracksuit bringing us down. It has brought the club into disrepute and it's not proper for him to scupper our reputation. I expect our players to act professionally. We expect a certain level of behaviour and discipline. And that wasn’t it.". Read Jay's apology after the cut...

Jay later apologized to his fans, his club and girlfriend and blamed his behaviour on alcohol
"All I want say is that I regret doing what I did. I was drunk, I'd had more than a few drinks, and I want to say I'm sorry to my family and everyone involved at Clitheroe. I regret that I did it, not that I got caught. I've spoken and tried to sort things out with Bryony (his girlfriend)
“Everyone in the world knows about it, I just want to get my apology out there. I haven't seen the girl since, I don't have a clue who she is, don't have a clue.”

NNPC calls for fuel subsidy removal

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has called for the removal of payment of subsidy from petroleum products in Nigeria. Speaking at the 2015 Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum  organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers in Abuja today April 23rd, the Group Coordinator, Corporate Strategy and Planning, NNPC, Mr. Timothy Okon, said subsidy on petrol creates uneven distribution of revenue, round tripping and unnecessary carry-over of funds from one year to another in a manner difficult for the Federal Government to control. He added that continuous payment of subsidy is not sustainable.

"So, from the technical analysis made, it is obvious that subsidy is real. And from our analysis, we look at it as something that should go because it is not sustainable,” he said.
He said since the federal government has no direct control the prices of crude oil, the fluctuation in oil prices creates some instability in the Nigerian economy which in turn affects negatively the nations revenue generated from petroleum products.

From Mirror UK

Yamini sought medical help last September when she began to struggle with conversations and reading. If a couple of people were talking in the room, I wouldn't understand what was happening," Yamini told NBC Los Angeles. "I just didn't imagine any of this"
Doctors were initially unsure what was wrong with the PhD student and performed keyhole surgery in her brain.
That was when surgeons made the amazing discovery and removed the teratoma – Yamimi's twin that never developed.
Yamini, from Indiana, joked that the teratoma was was her "evil twin sister who's been torturing me for the past 26 years".

Dr Hrayr Shahinian, at the Skullbase Institute in Los Angeles, said it was only the second teratoma he had come across out of up to 8,000 brain tumours he has removed.
