Cristiano Ronaldo is the most popular person in the world, in case you didn’t know that already

imageNewsflash, Cristiano Ronaldo is really, really popular.
It’s no surprise that he and fellow FIFA Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi are at the top of the charts when it comes to likes on Facebook. But Ronaldo has gone one step further: CR7 toppled Colombian songstress Shakira for the most popular figure in the world on the social media website.
The Real Madrid striker reached 107 million fans on Facebook, which is about 5K more than Shakira, who also happens to be the partner of Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.
And just to give you a little comparison, here are the next most popular athletes on Facebook:
  • Lionel Messi — 78.2 million likes
  • David Beckham — 52.1 million likes
  • Neymar — 51.9 million likes
  • Kaka — 32.7 million likes
It’s not even close.
Ronaldo is also the king of athletes on Twitter with 34 million followers. The next closest athlete is Kaka, with only 22 million followers.
This is all sports, by the way. The only non-soccer players that cracked the Facebook top 10 are Michael Jordan (28 million likes) and Kobe Bryant (21 million likes). According to Daily Mail, NBA superstar LeBron James didn’t crack the top ten:
imageOne wonders if Ronaldo’s vow to not speak for the rest of the season will put a dent in his domination of social media.
Nah. Who are we kidding.
